Welcome Back to Our Interview Series “Five Questions for…”.
We wanted to know from our iiRDS consortium members what drives them to actively participate in the consortium. Find out what visions are associated with the commitment to the standard for intelligent provision of user information and how companies are simultaneously preparing for the upheaval that Industrie 4.0 brings with it. Today’s questions go to Andreas Klüter.
Andreas Klüter
Managing Director, CTO of Empolis
Andreas Klüter, CTO and Managing Director at Empolis Information Management GmbH, has been focusing on the development of innovative systems for intelligent information processing for more than 20 years. From 1994 onwards, he made a decisive contribution to the realization of the world’s first research prototype “Verbmobil” for the fully automatic translation of spoken language at the German Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH). He is also involved in multimedia analyses, new methods of artificial intelligence and technical communication.
- As the iiRDS Consortium was founded for the further development of the standard, what was the motivation for you and your company to join?
Empolis Information Management GmbH has been a pioneer in the creation and use of what is now called “intelligent information” for 30 years. What could be more obvious than a standardized exchange format for intelligent information in order to advance digitization in the field of information and content?
Empolis was thus already a member of the iiRDS 1.0 Working Group and made a significant contribution to the iiRDS 1.0 standard. We are convinced that iiRDS, as a standardized exchange format for intelligent information, offers enormous opportunities in the provision and use of digital information and new content services.
- The roadmap contains numerous plans and ideas: what are you most hoping for from the Consortium?
We believe that iiRDS has significant potential to become the industry standard for the exchange of intelligent information. As a result, more and more tools and systems will support the standard, enabling customers to flexibly use intelligent information across system boundaries. This will benefit all stakeholders, both manufacturers and end users.
- What are you looking forward to in the internal work of the Consortium?
On a global scale, there is no standard that supports the exchange of structured intelligent information as consistently as iiRDS. With our experience in processing information, we want to make a contribution to promote, further support and develop the iiRDS standard so that it can advance into an internationally recognized industry standard.
- Which practical implementations do you see for using iiRDS in your company – now and in the future?
We have already integrated the current iiRDS standard into our products so that they are “iiRDS-ready” today. This applies both to our successful component content management system CLS and to our content delivery portal Empolis Service Express. Our customers are already well equipped for the future and can exchange information with all systems – as long as their manufacturers are also “iiRDS-ready”, or at least following up on this.
- Where do you see iiRDS three years from now?
I assume that iiRDS will spread quickly. The current standard is only the beginning and has by far not yet reached its full potential. In three years, a variety of tools and systems will support the iiRDS standard as an exchange format.
A big thank you to Andreas Klüter for this information!
